It is completely fair to say that my kids have been changing right before my eyes these past two weeks. I have noticed subtle changes in each of them and also a few obvious differences, too. One major thing happened yesterday with Logan.
It is very common for him to want a cup of 'milk' several times a day. He normally comes to me acting like he's completely exasperated and about to fall over from lack of calcium - in a horribly whiny voice he says something like - "Mom, I want some meek" - and then lets out a huge exhale of air - that he wasn't holding, but he does it for the dramatics of the request.
Well, yesterday he calmly walked into the office where I was frantically working on the 1st of the month bills, payroll, etc. - a sight that normally stresses him out even more than being out of 'meek'. He says to me in a matter-of-fact voice - "Mom, can I please have some MILK in my cup?" Come again, Logan! There was no whining, no exhaling, no dropping to the ground from exhaustion of asking - I truly couldn't believe it. Of course the milk was filled - twice - and I hugged him and made sure to correct him the next time he asked for MILK. "No, baby - you want some MEEK, NOT MILK".
This is one of the words I will always say the wrong way - even when he's making out some hottie in high school.
Saydee's word that we've kept is BAANA - for Banana. They are simply called BAANA'S at our house - there is no such thing as a banana at the Longhurst home.
Saydee is also growing up and changing. I haven't noticed too many obvious things in her, but definitely maturity and growth. She is excellent most of the time with her brother - which saves his life on some days, when I've ran out of patience with him. I ask her to help calm him down or keep him occupied while I do something productive and necessary like.......go to the bathroom in peace. A lot of times she'll come home from school and take him outside and play something pretend with him or jump on the trampoline or chase him around the yard for a half hour - which allows me to regroup and concentrate in silence for a few minutes.
Today was no exception to her taking care of her little brother in his time of need. They were both dancing around to the Lilo and Stitch soundtrack (lots of Elvis music) and he was spinning around and hit his chin on the edge of the coffee table. I was blowing my hair and didn't hear anything until they were in my bedroom. He had scraped his chin and bit his tongue and was quite upset. She had carried him into my bedroom and got him all situated in my bed - pillow propped up, blankets surrounding him - Thomas the Train band-aid on the chin - the whole nine yards. I kissed him and helped her get the cartoons on the TV and gave her a good-nurse hug and then - what else, took a picture.
This was a mommy-is-proud moment for sure.
We were at soccer this afternoon and he slammed his thumb in the door of the Yukon and she gave him the same concern. Good news, though - his 'feender' felt better after he saw a choo-choo train with 2 engines and not too many 'traters'.
Glad to have an opportunity to document all this and remember it on this here blog!
Tomorrow I'll share the photo Saydee took of me in glasses - I HATE MY GLASSES! Neat - something for you all to look forward to, I'm sure.
Saydee is a doll!

Love hearing these cute stories. I am the same way with certain words my kids say. When they start growing, I still don't want them to say it correctly. Some of our words are "dambaids" (bandaids), and the cutest...our hired help from Mexico...Russell used to call them Mexicos in stead of Mexicans, so now, the whole family calls them Mexicos. Can't wait to see you in your glasses!
